"Thousands of Little Smiles"
UNICEF in Bosnia and Herzegovina has recently launched a project
named "The Best Start for Every Child" and provide support for
opening and funding of Integrated Parent Child Centres (IPCC) in
BiH. UNICEF's IPCCs are aimed to enable innovative approach and a
wide range of effective support to the children and parents by
focusing on the vulnerable population of infants and children ages 0
to 10 years with special focus on children ages 0 to 3 years.
In November 2009 the first IPCC was
opened in Sarajevo, from February 2010 second IPCC located in Bileća
started with its work. In the next two months UNICEF will open few
more IPCCs (Novi Travnik, Kotor Varoš, Laktaši).
Truly, the first steps have already been
made, but much more need to be done to achieve the final goal of
opening a large number of IPCCs throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Since the most effective way to overcome
the real problems of poverty and social exclusion of the population
who are on the edge of existence is recognized in the IPCC model, as
well as recognizing that investing in a responsible and supportive
parenting and early childhood development is the best investment
that community can make, AmCham BiH decided to help UNICEF BiH to
rise funds for opening a large number of IPCCs in BiH.
AmCham launched its own Charity Campaign
named ''Thousands of Little Smiles'' and we held our first donor's
dinner on Saturday, May 15, 2010 in Hotel Holiday Inn, Sarajevo. We
are pleased to notice that our first event gathered many guests from
the BiH business comunity , the goverment, international
