Night of a Thousand Dinners

Holiday Inn Hotel, Congressional Hall
On the evening of June 10 2006,in the
Congressional Hall of the Holiday Inn Hotel, American Chamber of
Commerce in BiH with the support of the Embassies of the United
States and Canada hosted its fourth gala event for demining
activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina "Night of a Thousand Dinners"
Donors contributed 193,680KM, which will be doubled by the
government of the United States through a contribution to the
International Trust Fund, for a total of 387,360 KM.
The total amount /the original contributions and the matched amount/
will be returned to Bosnia and Herzegovina and used to clear
minefields chosen by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bosnia and
Herzegovina.
The "Night of a Thousand Dinners 2006" was attended by officials
from the state government, diplomatic corps, and many
representatatives from the business community.
Canadian Ambassador Shelley Whiting, U.S Ambassador Douglas
McElhaney and American Chamber of Commerce President Faruk
Telibeæiroviæ spoke to the guests about the importance of supporting
mine action activities.
H.E Ambassador Whiting stated that, "Canada is proud of its support
to demining activities in BiH. Thanks to the generosity and
corporate leaership of our Night of a Thousand Dinners, we are
closer to achieving our common goal - Bosnia and Herzegovina free of
landmines".
H. E. Ambassador McElhaney stated that, "The United States of
America is commited to addressing the legacy and threat of
persistent landmines and unexploded ordnance, I would like to thank
the American Chamber of Commerce for taking the lead in hosting this
event".
