Night of a Thousand Dinners

 On
the evening of April 14 2007,in the Congressional Hall of the
Holiday Inn Hotel, American Chamber of Commerce in BiH in
cooperation with the Embassies of the United States and Canada
hosted its fifth gala event for demining activities in Bosnia and
Herzegovina "Night of a Thousand Dinners" Donors contributed
304.000,00 KM, which will be doubled by the government of the United
States through a contribution to the International Trust Fund, for a
total of 608,000,00 KM.
The total amount / the original contributions and the matched amount
/ will be returned to Bosnia and Herzegovina and used to clear
minefields chosen by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bosnia and
Herzegovina.
This year the "Night of a Thousand Dinners" was held on Saturday,
April 14, 2007 at Holiday Inn Congressional Hall and was attended by
officials from the state government, diplomatic corps, and many
representatatives from the business community, foreign and domestic
assosiations.
U.S Ambassador Douglas McElhaney, Canadian Ambassador David
Hutchings, and American Chamber of Commerce President Faruk
Telibeæiroviæ spoke to the guests about the importance of supporting
mine action activities.
H.E.Douglas McElhaney, Ambassador of the United States of America to
BiH stated that, "The generosity of the business community in Bosnia
and Herzegovina is equaled by the government of the United States,
which matches the amount of funds raised at the Night of Thousand
Dinnerrs, trough a contribution to the International Trust Fund".
H.E.David Hutchings, Ambassador of Canada to BiH added: "The
sponsors of the Night of Thousand Dinners in Sarajevo have each year
contributed generously to ensuring that our event is a success.
Indeed the global success of our Night is that it raises the most
monies anywhere in the world. The Government of Canada and other
donor governments can be greatly encouraged by the generosity and
support of private sector donors in Bosnia and Herzegovina".
